"Hell is So Green: Search and Rescue over the Hump in World War II"

This book was written by Lt. William Diebold shortly after the war. Though he intended to publish it as a book, that never happened and he died in 1965. Two years ago his daughter, Anna, handed the manuscript to Mr. Dick Matthews and the result is the current hardback release.

The book tells the story of Lt. Diebold's search and rescue operations in the mountains and jungles of Burma during 1944-1945. He parachuted into the jungle to rescue airmen whose planes went down while flying the Hump. Though Diebold never fired a gun in anger, he was a hero nevertheless and saved the lives of a number of flyers who almost certainly would otherwise have perished. Hell is So Green - saved by his daughter all these years - is his personal account of that time.

Lyons Press lists the book at $22.95, but it's also for sale on Amazon and other on-line book markets, or Mr. Matthews can provide it for $16 plus postage, or $18.20 total.
